The artificial pancreas is a technology in development to help people with diabetes, and the artificial pancreas system combines a continuous glucose monitor and an insulin pump and uses a sophisticated algorithm to calculate the appropriate amount of insulin to deliver based on the real-time glucose readings. Using an artificial pancreas system can significantly reduce the risk of hypoglycemia, a major concern for children and adults with T1D. The original devices for use in type 1 diabetes were blood glucose meters.
